Your wellbeing

health & safety disclaimer

This is the most important page on nhale. The breath is a generous teacher, and we want your practice to be safe as well as nourishing. Please take a few quiet minutes to read this before you begin — for yourself, and for anyone you might one day share the practice with.

01

A wellness practice, not medical care

Breathwork and Reiki are educational and wellness practices. They are not medical treatment, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for professional medical or mental-health care. nhale does not provide medical advice, and nothing on this site or in our sessions should be taken as such.

Always seek the advice of your doctor or another qualified health professional with any questions about a medical or psychological condition. Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you have read, heard, or practised with nhale.

02

No medical claims

We do not claim that breathwork or Reiki will treat, cure, prevent, or diagnose any disease, condition, or illness. Where research into breathwork is promising but early, we say so. We promise a practice, taught with care — not a cure.

03

Consult your doctor first

Some health conditions mean that breathwork — particularly more intense or fast-paced techniques and breath retention — may not be safe for you. Please speak with your doctor before practising if you have, or have a history of, any of the following:

  • are pregnant
  • have cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, or a history of heart attack or stroke
  • have epilepsy or any history of seizures
  • have a respiratory condition such as severe asthma or COPD
  • have an aneurysm, or a personal or family history of aneurysm
  • have had recent surgery or a recent injury
  • have glaucoma or a detached retina
  • have kidney disease
  • have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or active psychosis
  • live with panic disorder, severe anxiety, or PTSD — intense breathwork can surface strong emotions

This list is a guide, not a complete list of every situation. If you have any health concern at all, or you are simply unsure, please check with your doctor first. It is always okay to wait, to go gently, or to choose not to practise.

04

Safety rules — please follow every time

  • Never practise breath retention (breath holds) in or near water — not in a bath, pool, or the ocean.
  • Never practise while driving or operating machinery.
  • Always practise seated or lying down, in a safe and comfortable space.
  • Light tingling or mild lightheadedness can be a normal part of breathwork — but if it becomes intense, or you feel faint, dizzy, or unwell, stop and breathe normally.
  • Never force the breath. The practice should feel like an invitation, never a strain.

05

Assumption of risk

Breathwork can bring up strong physical sensations and emotions. By choosing to practise with nhale, you accept that you take part voluntarily and at your own risk, that you are responsible for listening to your body and your limits, and that you have considered your own health before beginning. If you are caring for or guiding someone else, please share this disclaimer with them too.

06

In an emergency

If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency — including chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, or any serious or frightening symptom — stop immediately and call 000 for emergency services in Australia, or your local emergency number. If you are struggling with your mental health and need to talk to someone now, you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

07

Your acknowledgement

By using the breath timer, booking a session, or enrolling in the course, you confirm that you have read and understood this Health & Safety Disclaimer, that you have considered your own health and any of the conditions listed above, and that you will follow the safety rules each time you practise.

Please also read our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If anything here raises a question, we would rather you ask — reach us any time at hello@nhale.com.au.
